UA Green Training Trailer
Indicative of its investment in its green workforce training, the United Association
of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of
the United States and Canada (UA), and a founding NJ PEEL member, recently
unveiled its Green Training Trailer. According to the UA, it’s big,
it’s green and it’s on tour around the country to introduce UA
apprentices, journeyman-level workers and green building expo participants
to renewable energy technologies and sustainable building concepts.
The Green
Training Trailer will stop in New Jersey on May 8-9, 2009. It will be on
display at Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 9, Iron Ore Road in Englishtown,
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The 40-foot-long mobile classroom provides an overview of a number of power-generating
technologies, including fuel cells, wind power and solar systems. It also
highlights new water treatment processes. This state-of-the-art mobile classroom
provides
information about the latest green technologies being used in mechanical
service and construction. The technologies featured on board allows visitors
to see
first hand the many ways in which a building can become more energy efficient,
use fewer natural resources and have minimal impact on the environment.
The
HVAC Mobile Green Classroom is packed with the latest cutting-edge technologies
that provide hands-on learning opportunities in an effort to promote more
sustainable mechanical service and construction. The ultimate educational
tool for “going
green,” the training trailer demonstrates new and innovative technologies
to enhance a building’s energy efficiency while maintaining occupant
health, safety and comfort. The trailer also provides supplemental hands-on
training opportunities in conjunction with MCAA’s LEED AP training
programs and the UA/MSCA’s Green Awareness Training and Certification
Program.
A virtual tour of the trailer is available at the UA
web site, www.ua.org. Click on “The UA has Gone Green” icon. The UA also is a founding
member of the Green Mechanical Council, a national alliance of mechanical
contractors, manufacturers, skilled professionals, universities and other
organizations.
The council—called “GreenMech”—conducts education
and training activities.
